Universal Publications, Ltd.
Incorporated in 1968 as
publishers of academic textbooks and language
teaching aids, our sales team needed a good map to
help them visiting schools daily. However, quality
maps were really inadequate at that time. We then
discovered that the demand for maps was immense in
the rapidly growing economy of Hong Kong. After
several years of preparation, we published our first
folded street map in the early 70's. In 1977, our
first guidebook, “Hong Kong Guidebook” was
published. Over the years, this guidebook continues
to attain recognition and has become one of the
best-sellers in Hong Kong, putting us among the
prominent map makers of Hong Kong ever since.
In the early 90’s we began computerizing our systems
of map drawing and data processing, and in the
middle of that decade, we developed a computer
database consisting of over 12,000 names of
buildings with detailed address in Chinese and
English. Now, with modern technology, more
sophisticated databases were developed leading to
the diversification of our map products. Popular
titles including the “Hong Kong Directory” and the
“Hong Kong Driving Guide” were published in the
90’s.
Besides maps for local readers, a series of touring
maps were published by the turn of the century such
as the “Hong Kong City Map with Guide” and “Palm
Atlas of Hong Kong”, etc.
Other than titles for the Hong Kong region, maps of
Macau, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, Pearl
River Delta, and the Guangdong Province were
published. Map of China and Map of the World are
among our best selling titles, which corporations
love to choose as gifts for their clients.
Our commitment to quality maps has gained us
reputation and recognition in the field. We also
supply custom-made products to corporations and
government departments including the Hong Kong
Observatory, PCCW, BMW, Michelin, OOCL, and Maersk,
just to name a few.
